Dasavatharam Review... and Understanding Chaos Theory with Indian Karma!!!

First of all I would like to discuss only about the story and the screenplay by Kamal and not his acting. His acting is something that he has proved to perfection in lots of other movies and this movie is not to prove it once again but to continue that stand. So the review of this considering acting and the perfection in it is same as lots of other his movies. I’ll give my review on the story and the screenplay, which many people say they have not liked…

We all say certain things are not good. I give u a page long equation to and say this is brilliant. U won’t go to agree with me because u hasn’t understood the equation at all. So this is the case with dasavatharam. First forget about all Tamil movies u have watched recently and get into the mood of understanding chaos theory … so I’ll explain chaos theory first with my own examples…

Say Alice comes to u and asks u “what’s the time.” u finds your watch is not working and look for the time in cell phone. But your cell phone is locked and is in your packet. And u take it out, unlock the cell phone see the time and tell it to Alice. Alice says thanks Bob and turns back to find a car about to run over a blind man. And Alice Shouts out to that blind man and saves him… Now it’s for the chaos theory. If u, Bob, had your watch working, Alice would have left the place long ago and wouldn’t have seen the car and the blind man in the right time to save it… So u locking the cell phone and keeping it in your packet has played an important role in saving a blind man. In fact this locking of cell phone could have been triggered by some other event. So it might be that event that saved the blind man… So THIS is chaos Theory … So view the story of dasavatharam in terms of this… its difficult to understand. But the pleasure and insight u get after understanding it is unbounded. It’s like a maternity of a mother… it’s differ to go thro it but after that it’s splendid (I hope I didn’t mess up with the example)

Now Think about each role that comes in the movie u will find the zigzag complete… the 12th century Kamal, if he had been saved by GOD in that instance, the stone would not have gone to the ocean to trigger a tectonic imbalance to cause a tsunami 1000 years later.. So if u just view it as separate events, it makes no sense. But the second event is highly because of the magnification of the effect of first event. Similar to the keeping the cell phone locked inside your pocket has no significance to u. But it means a life to some body else… I am not saying. His life is in cell phone. But considering the series of events happening, your cell phone played a big role. This is called BUTTERFLY effect. A small movement of the wings of butterfly might get magnified as a big hurricane somewhere else…

Now so in a sequence of events, say the place where Fletcher kills the Japanese guys sister. If he hadn’t done that, he would not have met his end later. So its all what we call Karma. The pros and cons of event. People who just see the event are not amused at it. But those who take the pain of going thro of pros and cons get a joy no bounds.

And some have been questioning if bullets can cure cancer… cancer cells are there in each of us body…. cancer cells are dangerous when their number in our body grows alarmingly… so what the docs do is just cut out those bad cancers cells growing at faster rate… the bullet simply did that. In fact anything that cuts it off cures cancer to tell it in a simple way (though cancer is not as simple as that. just for the sake of understanding there is nothing logically flawed). And the bullet did that …

So to put it in a nutshell not even many Hollywood people have thought of chaos theory much. Few films have come on that and an INDIAN film is based on chaos theory. So people if u don’t understand the story don’t consider the story to be stupid, the story is indeed cleverly woven and is right in front of u.. All it takes is a bit of gray cells work to discover the joy. Now Kamal has succeeded in that. Hats off to him for being so creative… Though the movie is at places showing off the Indian graphics standard, at most of the first half and climax fight, its world class… and its worth a thrice watch at least…
